Kopke Fine Tawny Port: A Timeless Indulgence
Experience the rich heritage and exquisite flavors of Kopke Fine Tawny Port, crafted by the world’s oldest Port wine house. This exceptional fortified wine embodies centuries of tradition and expertise, offering a delightful journey for your senses.
Artisanal Vinification Process
Kopke Fine Tawny Port begins with hand-picked grapes harvested at their peak ripeness. The grapes are destemmed, crushed, and undergo meticulous maceration with constant churning during fermentation. This process occurs in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures between 28-30°C. Once the desired sweetness level is reached, grape brandy is added, creating the final fortified wine. The blend comprises wines from various harvests, aged in stainless steel and wooden vats for a minimum of three years, resulting in a rich and aromatic profile.
Tasting Notes
This Tawny Port showcases a vivid orangey-brown hue. Its aroma reveals ripe, honeyed fruit intertwined with fragrant vanilla notes. On the palate, it is smooth and round, offering rich, enveloping flavors that culminate in a satisfying finish.
Perfect Pairings
Kopke Fine Tawny Port is an ideal companion for desserts featuring caramel, coffee, apricot, or dried fruits. It pairs wonderfully with caramelized walnuts, tiramisu, hazelnut meringue pie, and mild cheeses like Brie. For optimal enjoyment, serve it chilled between 12 and 14°C.
Vineyard and Terroir
The vineyards are traditionally planted across horizontal terraces, with recent plantings following the slope vertically (“vinha ao alto”). The soil consists of schist-sandstone (greywacke), interspersed with granite in certain areas, at elevations up to 600 meters. These conditions contribute to the unique character of the traditional Douro grape varieties used in this Port.
