The distillery draws its pure water from springs in the nearby Unthank Hills, while its traditional production methods remain closely connected to its long heritage.
Distinctive Glencadam Distillery Character
Glencadam has operated two pot stills since its beginnings, and their unusual upward-sloping lye pipes are an important part of the distillery’s identity. Unlike the more typical downward angle, these pipes rise at approximately 15 degrees. This distinctive design is believed to contribute to the particularly delicate and mellow spirit that develops into Glencadam’s sweet and fruity whisky character during maturation.
After a quarter of a century in oak, Glencadam 25 Year Old develops impressive complexity without losing its refined nature. Furthermore, the whisky is bottled without chill filtration, helping preserve its aromatic components and enhancing its presence and flavour. No caramel colouring is added either, allowing the natural appearance and character of the cask-matured whisky to shine through.
Tasting Notes
The whisky displays an attractive barley gold colour. On the nose, sweet malt combines with hints of exotic fruit before giving way to mixed nuts and an intriguing suggestion of cigar-box aromas. The palate is rich and complex, bringing together guava, hazelnuts and almonds with generous, rounded oak tones.
As the whisky develops, the oak provides structure without overpowering the fruit and nut character. Finally, the finish is soft and gently spicy, with warming ginger and pepper creating a lingering and elegant finale.
