Vineyard and Terroir

Located on a 5.3-hectare estate at the foot of slopes with clayey-silty subsoil, Château Bréhat’s vineyard benefits from a prime terroir. The estate, part of the de Monteil family since the 15th century, lies adjacent to the renowned Saint-Emilion Grand Cru area. The vines, averaging 40 years old, produce grapes with concentrated flavors, thanks to the estate’s rich history and expert cultivation.

Grape Varieties and Blend

Château Bréhat 2016 is a masterful blend of 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. This combination creates a wine with balance, structure, and depth. The Merlot brings softness and fruitiness, while the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon contribute complexity and tannins, resulting in a wine that is both approachable and age-worthy.

Vinification and Aging

The vinification process at Château Bréhat is meticulously controlled. Grapes are hand-sorted, ensuring only the finest fruit makes it into the vats. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats, followed by long vatting to extract maximum flavor. Aging is split between 50% in covered vats and 50% in French oak barrels (both new and once-used). This method enhances the wine’s texture, adding a layer of elegance to the finished product.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, Château Bréhat 2016 offers an inviting bouquet of red cherry, cranberry, and violet, with hints of earthiness that develop in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, delivering a well-balanced combination of intensity and refinement. The finish is long and elegant, showcasing the wine’s freshness and silky texture.
