Le Grand Noir Pinot Noir – IGP Pays d’Oc

A Distinctive Pinot Noir from Southern France

Le Grand Noir Pinot Noir is a vibrant and expressive French red wine that challenges the traditional expectations of this famously demanding grape variety. Made from 100% Pinot Noir, this distinctive wine comes from the Languedoc-Roussillon region of Southern France, where high-altitude vineyards, Mediterranean sunshine and diverse terroirs create the ideal conditions for producing an elegant yet approachable Pinot Noir.

Pinot Noir is famously difficult to grow and is often described as a true soloist. It can be particular about where it thrives, but Le Grand Noir takes a different approach. Rather than attempting to recreate Burgundy, the winemaking team selected vineyards with varying altitudes, soils and microclimates to allow the grape to express itself naturally. The vineyards sit between 200 and 400 metres above sea level, across clay and limestone terraces, helping to retain freshness while developing ripe and concentrated fruit flavours.

Fresh, Juicy and Fruit-Driven

On the palate, Le Grand Noir Pinot Noir is immediately enjoyable, with a juicy and refreshing character. Bright raspberry and cherry flavours lead the profile, followed by delicate hints of strawberry and subtle oak. A refreshing touch of pepper adds another layer of complexity, while the balanced acidity keeps the wine lively and easy to drink.

Only a small proportion of the wine, approximately 10%, matures in oak barrels. Consequently, the oak remains discreet and supportive rather than overpowering the natural fruit character. With an alcohol content of 12.5% and residual sugar of just 3 g/L, this is a balanced and versatile red wine suited to both casual occasions and food-focused dining.

Food Pairing and Serving Suggestions

Le Grand Noir Pinot Noir works beautifully on its own, but it also pairs particularly well with a wide variety of dishes. Its fresh fruit character makes it an excellent match for roasted and grilled meats, poultry and lighter meat dishes. Furthermore, Pinot Noir’s natural versatility allows it to accompany fish such as tuna and salmon.

For an especially refreshing experience, serve this Pinot Noir slightly chilled, particularly during warmer weather. Its Mediterranean origin and lively fruit profile make it an excellent choice for relaxed summer dining.

Vineyard and Winemaking Details

The vines are approximately 10 years old and planted at a density of 4,000 vines per hectare. The vineyards have a Mediterranean climate, with low yields of around 80 hl/ha. Harvesting takes place mechanically at night, helping to preserve the grapes’ freshness before fermentation and winemaking.

With a cellaring potential of around three years, Le Grand Noir Pinot Noir is primarily designed to be enjoyed while its vibrant fruit character remains fresh and expressive.
